dou·la [doo-luh] –noun a woman who assists women during labor and after childbirth; a female servant; caregiver.
this is a picture of the women i attended birth doula training with.
katie's mom debbie, is in the middle and she was an outstanding teacher!
please lift each of these women up in your prayers today and throughout the week.
everyone (including me) signed up to be on call and assist at the birth center as a volunteer doula this month. that means i will be doing two very important things...
act as a labor assistant and keep my cell phone charged! :)
please pray that we wouldn't be anxious or nervous, but excited and expectant of the miracles of births and the opportunity to serve; that we would serve our clients as if serving JESUS, not be afraid, have strength and wisdom and discernment throughout the labor and please pray for safety and protection for the mommies who are in labor and their families.
i personally want to thank karen donaghy who has spoken so much into my life and who encouraged and sent me to doula training. it has been something i have wanted to learn and do since i was 19 years old! now at 38, it's taken me 19 years to get there~ the LORD's timing is perfect! i've always believed that a woman can have everything (school, marriage, children)... sometimes just not all at once and sometimes all at once! this season of my life is a blessing to be surrounded by women like karen who not only witness to me what a "friend" is, but who model to me what love, compassion and being a servant is all about... a constant willingness to seek first righteousness, trust in the LORD for all things, lay down my life and pride and control of things and not be afraid. to surrender. i praise GOD for her in my life and for all the other women out there who are modeling what it means to be a follower of Christ and whom i rely on for encouragement and reconciliation back towards CHRIST when i get caught up in things that are not of GOD ~ i love you all and i praise GOD for you. you know who you are...
a scripture for the day:
2My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
