Hi Mrs. Lori!
First off, praise GOD! Thank you so much. God is good and when I see you and your family, I am reminded of that.
---

I wanted to share with you (or whoever you want to share this with...) a little bit from tonight.

From tonight, please pray for Ron (a man with a walker whom we met toward the beginning of the night). We didn't get a long time to talk with him, but Dave gave him a new testament Bible. He seemed to have some knowledge about God/ interest in the Bible. Pray for him to have a soft heart and willing spirit to obey.

Tonight in the Tenderloin was such a blessing, though humbling and heartbreaking at the same time. While we were standing out on the corner worshiping, I saw a group of young/middle aged men off to the side of the liquor store. I think normally in myself, I would feel disgusted or scared by them. But at that moment, Jesus really broke my heart. Think of what they could be...think of their potential in Christ... Oh, Lord, my heart wrenched inside me, but the Lord swiftly brought his word: "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear." (Isaiah 59:1) Jesus, your hand is not shortened that you cannot save, and you hear. Jesus, please hear our prayer and heal this land. Please pray for the Lord's hand to save, for his Spirit to reign, and for holy, righteous men and women to rise up out of the ashes--freedom (no more bondage) in the Tenderloin. Only Jesus can do it! Nothing is impossible with God!

One of the most humbling moments of the night was on that same corner, watching the woman that Gracie, Shelby, Winsome, & Jalicia talked to praise Jesus. Never before have I seen such humble joy. Freedom! Please teach our hearts to adore you in such a way. You are WORTHY! JESUS!

Aside from that, Jesus blessed me beyond belief at the conference today. The good news of the gospel should never cease to amaze us nor should it ever cease to be good news. Right? Jesus is more than enough (I want to live in that place!)
Praise God for his Word and for those who trust that his promises are true. Thank you to you and Karen (and the other women who shared) for teaching me to believe that Jesus's promises are true and beyond measure, and that our worth is to be soley built on Christ. Truly I appreciate you all because of your obedience to the Word and that there's no compromise and no excuse. We need Godly mommies (or mommy-figures) or older sisters in Christ to stand up and preach the truth our generation. (Please exhort/ correct/ encourage/ rebuke us! We need it!) ...and what a high calling as we too are called to set that same example (especially for those younger that look up to us). Please, please pray for us.

Not that it matters so much, but I really appreciate you... your labor for the Lord is NOT in vain!

Thank you and thank Jesus a billion! Please say thanks to Pastor Rudy and your family too. Love you!

Skid Row Testimony by Gracie Burroughs

I was blessed to be able to attend the 2012 Skid Row outreach. A team of about 20 Christians including myself drove down to Los Angeles for the weekend bordering New Years Eve and day with one purpose; to preach the gospel and one goal; to see souls saved and brought back to Jesus.
I had been down to Skid Row and Hollywood Boulevard a little over a year before this trip. The first time opened my eyes in so many ways and then spurred me on the keep preaching the gospel in my home, school and neighborhood. Both trips were equally effective, heartbreaking and encouraging, but different at the same time. Being out on the streets of Skid Row was heartbreaking.
Looking over the masses of people sleeping and living out on the streets. Seeing people that have gone different lengths of time without a hug, smile, joy, food, sleep, blankets, a home is absolutely heartbreaking. What is more heartbreaking however is seeing someone go a second on this earth without knowing Jesus. But the good news is that Jesus still saves and will continue too and his grace is sufficient! This proved to be true when God showed up in my life about two years ago and saved me and it continues to prove true, for instance in Skid Row.
We got down to Hollywood just in time to hit the streets Friday night. I have not decided which is more heartbreaking, seeing twelve year old girls dressed like prostitutes while walking down Hollywood Boulevard with their parents or seeing women and children desperate for food and love on the streets of Skid Row. Our team witnessed both. Friday night we brought the Gospel to the lost and dying on Hollywood Boulevard and found that the Harvest is still plentiful.
As old friends came together to preach the Lord blessed us and the team was encouraged to make know the name of Jesus. We worshiped and preached and met many people hungry for Jesus. My friend Tiara and Cristina and I talked to threes guy our age (about 20) Brandon, James and their friend. All of these guys thank us for being out there preaching and said they had family members who have been preaching and praying for them. They said it was different hearing the gospel from people other than their Mom’s or Grandparent’s. They said they knew Jesus was the way and knew they needed to get right with Jesus but did not know what was holding them back. After telling them the gospel and some scriptures that were applicable to their situation we prayed for them and they went their way.
I know one thing for sure, My God is faithful and the Holy Spirit will follow through with those boys, and they did not have the night they were expecting to have. We prayed they would be convicted entering into the clubs full of sin and would be repulsed by it and would repent and believe the gospel.
Others on the team also had many fruitful conversations and that night we left Hollywood Boulevard and the devil was defeated. We then woke up Saturday morning bright and early for breakfast, worship, prayer and testimonies. Then prepared food and equipment for Skid Row. We were blessed with men of God who love Jesus too much to compromise to lead our team into Skid Row. That day I met a lady named Mary who was overjoyed seeing the children on our team serving God at such a young age (4), which would not have happened it weren’t for her and her parents obedience to the Lord. I then met a lady named Diane who was broken and hurt. She came up to my friend and I weeping and kept asking “Do you really think I am going to be okay? Do you really think God is going to help me?” We replied YES! And she left with her vision restored back on Jesus.
Later that night we went back to Hollywood Boulevard. It was New Years Eve. While many were out to party for New Years Eve, we were there to lift up the name of Jesus and seek and save that which is lost. A young girl named Jamie came up to the team and danced by Bobby Chance while he was playing the guitar. She then came back and talked to me. She told me she had been seeking Jesus and a Church fellowship. I told her she needed to get right with Jesus first. She listened. She thanked our team for being out on the streets and was touched by our love and patience towards her. I kept telling her the good news of Jesus and she said “I have never heard the bible described like that.” We continued to talk and then I prayed for her. As I was praying for her the clock struck midnight and Hollywood Blvd went crazy, but it didn’t faze her, we continued praying. It was a testimony of how pointless worldly celebrations are but how celebrations of Jesus are eternally meaningful. Jamie went away with a soft heart, changed by the grace of God.
There are many more testimonies from this weekend that other members on the team experienced. I was blessed by the obedience of the team that went to Skid Row. Often we find that we do not just minister to the lost, but to each other and to ourselves. God is great. Nine year old Kayli cried out to God on the floor of the Oasis while we were worshipping. A testimony that you can be young and still serve God. Mother Kayci brought her five kids to the outreach (one in her belly) without excuse. Accompanied by her husband Chad who had to have the faith the trust that God would provide for them to attend the trip. Sisters Maddie (17) and Cece (15) led worship for the team and preached fearlessly. Pastor Rudy talked to Marines on the streets of Hollywood Blvd while also keeping the team safe, getting us from place to place and preaching the whole weekend. A young couple Erica and Jd and baby emma came in obedience to the Lord and learned the importance of sharing their faith. Sisters Lauren (20) and Shelby (16) came with a willingness to preach. Brian (33) came with boldness and a soft heart, preached and had compassion for people just like Jesus. Kenneth came from his unsaved families home to the outreach to continue to preach filled with joy and the Holy Ghost. Bobby and Dot Chance blessed our team by leading the outreach and contributing 30 years of obedience to the King of Kings. Maddie, Lauren and Kenneth also helped save a girls life (18) who had to much to drink and was driven away in a ambulance car. Lori helped Ana, a woman in a wheel chair with Polio and two kids who had not eaten in 2 days get food and their vision restored back on Jesus. All of this blessed me. I thank God for the opportunity and can not wait for the next opportunity!

Girls, get right with JESUS

I'm broken hearted for all the girls out there that don't know Jesus. That live for this world and not Jesus. Last night on Hollywood blvd we saw right before our eyes that the wages of sin leads to death. We encountered a young girl (just turned 18) passed out in an alley at 1:00am with a man that didn't even know her. She was too drunk to even say her name. As Lauren and I helped her stand, pulled her hair back as she was throwing up, and kept her dress from falling off, I couldn't help but pray for her and thank God that he has delivered me from this world. Within an hour, her "friends" (after they were done partying) were staring at her laughing as she was passed out in the back of an ambulance. Girls, I urge you to get right with the Lord so you don't end up like her, but instead know that there is worth in you and that you deserve more than this world. Know that there is a God that has so much love for you. You're meant to be a daughter of the King, a princess of the most high God-- not trash and an item for some guy to take advantage of. Repent, and get right with Jesus for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

Preach the gospel and use words.

So many years in church I heard "preach the gospel and if you must, use words" quoted from St. Francis of Assisi. I was raised Catholic so I was encouraged to hear in an evangelical setting anything from St. Francis used... until I heard that quote. It infuriated me the way people use this quote from the pulpits to hinder people from doing what Jesus commands us to do and this: "Go preach the gospel." My itching ears thankfully on those days when I heard this were clear and it never sat right with me. I came across this article~ yes, everyone, from Ray Comfort~~~ written in 2007. It is a good share.

Saint Francis . . . A Sissy?

One hundred and fifty thousand children had been on the brink of starving to death, but thanks to the kind gift of a very generous billionaire, every child now had enough food to keep him alive. That gift had arrived in the form of one big check. The horror was now over. It was finished. It was just a matter of distributing the food using the few relief workers we had. Without them to get the food to the children, there would have been many more deaths.

Some days later, a frantic worker burst into the camp and cried, "Some of the relief workers have stopped distributing food. Masses of children are dying!"

Why would the workers stop when there was plenty of food? It didn't make sense. The distraught man said, "It's because one of them held up a sign that said, 'Feed the starving children. Where necessary, use food.' That has caused some of the workers to simply befriend the starving children without giving them food. It's insane!"

The first time I ever heard of Saint Francis of Assisi was back in 1965. It was during the surf movie "The Endless Summer." Four surfers who were chasing the sun discovered the perfect wave, at a place in South Africa called "Cape Saint Francis." The sight of the perfect wave excited me beyond words.

The Unspeakable Gift

The next time I heard of him was when I heard that he said "Preach the Gospel at all times. Where necessary, use words." That statement upset me beyond words, because it was a philosophy that I knew sounded deeply spiritual . . . to those who were spiritually shallow. It made as much sense as "Feed starving children. Where necessary, use food."

On 16 July 1228 Francis of Assisi was pronounced a saint by Pope Gregory IX. That's a long time ago, so it's a little late for questions, but if I could I would like to find out why anyone would say such a strange thing? Was it because he was fearful to use actual words to preach the truth of the Gospel? Or was it because he thought that people would see that he had good works and hear the message of salvation without a preacher, something contrary to Scripture's "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14).

Whatever the case, 800 years since Francis we have many who profess faith in Jesus, and are no doubt using this popular philosophy to justify being speechless. To them salvation truly is an "unspeakable" gift.

Recently someone told me about a conference where 100,000 Christians gathered to worship God. When I asked if they were exhorted to go out and preach the Gospel to every creature, it was no surprise to me that they weren't. Instead, they were exhorted to live a life of worship. Again, that sounds spiritual, but you can't worship God without obedience to His Word, and His Word commands us to preach the Gospel to every creature.

I regularly meet those who think they can obey the Great Commission without using words. When they hear the Gospel preached that are usually offended and say things like, "I appreciate what you are saying, but I don't like the way you are saying it." With a little probing, they are the relationship folks, who think preaching the Gospel means building relationships with the lost, and never mentioning words like "sin," "Hell," and "Judgment Day." They think that real love is to withhold the Bread of life from those that are starving to death. Remember that Jesus said, "Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38, italics added).

According to the dictionary, a "sissy" is "a timid or cowardly person." From what I understand of Saint Francis, he was no sissy. He was a loving man who was not afraid to use words when he preached. He wasn't frightened to preach repentance to a sinful world. However, there have been times when I could have been called that name. I have felt the grip of fear and have wanted to drop words such as sin, Hell, repentance and Judgment Day when I have preached to sinners. I don't want to come across as being unloving or judgmental, but I fear God more than I fear man. So when God's Word tells me to use words, I use words, despite the consequences.

Listen to the Apostle Paul's sobering warning to his hearers: "Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God" (Acts 20: 26-27). Perhaps he spoke about being free from their blood because he was familiar with God Himself warning Ezekiel of his responsibility to warn his generation: "When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand." (Ezekiel 3:18, italics added).

When someone thinks that they can feed starving children and not use food, that's their business. But when their philosophy spreads throughout the camp, it becomes an unspeakable tragedy. If we become passive about the Great Commission because we are more concerned about ourselves than the eternal well-being of others, we may be able to hide our motives from man, but not from God. He warns, "Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Surely we did not know this,' does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?" (Proverbs 24:11-12).

There's an interesting irony to this story. After a little research I came across a quote about the famous saying. It is from someone who had been a Franciscan monk for 28 years--and had earned an M.A. in Franciscan studies. He co ntacted some of the most eminent Franciscan scholars in the world to try and verify the saying. He said, "It is clearly not in any of Francis' writings. After a couple weeks of searching, no scholar could find this quote in a story written within 200 years of Francis' death." (1.)

So if it wasn't Saint Francis who said not to use words, who was it? Who is it that would like to see the truth of the Gospel hindered from being preached to every creature? That doesn't need to be answered.

The time is short. The laborers are few. Please, cast off your fears and equip yourself to preach the Gospel with words. They are necessary.
