We are excited about this year's outreach to the children in Tijuana! Our annual HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESUS party at the church in TJ will be for 600 children again this year.
Immediately following the party at the church we will get on the bus and head to the garbage dump (those who wish to stay behind at the church are welcome to do so) where we will give 500 teddy bears to children at the garbage dump! Thank you Gonzalez family/Raven West Coast in Santa Rosa for working so hard to get the teddy bears and other toys together.
SCHEDULE:
Friday, December 15, 2006 - meet at Best Western Americana Inn,
815 W San Ysidro Blvd, San Ysidro, CA 92173,
| (619) 428-5521 Some of us will be taking supplies across the border Friday night. Please notify Streetwise by email of your estimated time of arrival on Friday (some people will meet us on Saturday) Saturday, December 16, 2006 Meet at Coco's in the parking lot no later than 7:00 a.m. 825 W San Ysidro Blvd, San Ysidro, CA 92173 From Coco's we will get into our vehicles and drive to the parking lot at the border crossing. Be prepared to pay for parking for the entire day. We will then walk across the border where a chartered school bus will be awaiting our arrival in the parking lot. The bus will take us all to the church. Upon arrival at the church we will begin to set up for the outreach. We will organize all the toys inside the church sanctuary. We will work with the people from the church to set up cooking the hot dogs and preparing the lunch. We will need to set up chairs outside (thank you Lighthouse, Santa Rosa for donating the chairs!). We will need volunteers to set up and supervise the Streetwise Bouncehouse. We need volunteers to blow up balloons and to do face painting for the children. If you speak Spanish fluently please let us know immediately. We would like to know who you are so that we can use you to translate. Everyone on the team needs to be prepared to clean as we go so that cleaning up the church at the end of the party will not take a long time. We plan to be finished at the church by 1:30-2:00. At that time we will be getting back on the bus and heading to the garbage dump with 500 teddy bears and 500 hot dogs! How exciting! We plan to spend only about an hour at the garbage dump. Those of you who do not want to go can stay behind at the church. The people at the church are wonderful and they would love to spend time with you. WARNING: the scene at the garbage dump is truly heart-breaking! If you have not yet ordered your shirt please do so TODAY! WHAT TO BRING: You will need money for your own meals (you can eat hot dogs at the outreach for free), your own transportation, a Santa hat, a smile on your face accompanied by a whole lot of love for these precious children! Government issued photo i.d. such as: drivers license, passport. You will need this to get back into the USA. If you are bringing children with you it is a good idea to bring their birth certificate along as well. DIRECTIONS: To Coco's and Best Western take 5 South to Dairy Mart Road. Turn left back over the freeway and make an immediate right on San Ysidro Road. Coco's and the hotel will be on your left. We do not recommend driving your own car to the church on Saturday. Directions are sketchy at best to find the church. You would need to purchase additional insurance (Mexican insurance) to drive across the border. If you will be bringing a cell phone with you, please email us your cell phone number right away. We will be making a directory of cell phone numbers in case anyone gets separated from the group (haven't had it happen yet). To Prepare: Please begin to pray right now for the outreach. Specifically pray for our border crossings with the supplies. Pray that they will let us pass through WITH the supplies with no hassle - we do not want to be turned away. Pray for the children and for their parents. Our prayer is that they wouldn't just be left with a toy, but they would be left with the knowledge that Jesus Christ loves them, died for their sin and sent a group of Americans to tell them so! We want them to know that Jesus provided a meal for them and a wonderful toy but most of all he provided Salvation. We want them to know that Jesus is ALWAYS there to meet their need, He is their Comforter, their Healer, their Provider, their Salvation! |
